Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 is now officially in Development at UbiSoft's Redstorm Studios. Here is the real deal on this news...minus all the propoganda. (Why? because this site doesn't take it in the rear for adverts. So let's get down to business.)Oddly enough Ubisoft is declairing a complete revamp of the game. Which seems really odd to say the least.

Ubisoft is looking to step up their pressence in the tactical shooter genre. This statement was made by Ubisoft's President and CEO, Yves Guillemot: "Our ultimate goal is to become the primary player in the military shooter game arena, thanks to both our internal studios, proven to be amongst the best in the world in this category, and also through strategic alliances with high profile 3rd party developers".

In terms of Ghost Recon 2, it's stated to take place in the 'near future', in 'chaotic battlefields' with 'large scale conflicts'. Laurent Detoc, President of Ubisoft, Inc., stated "...we wanted to dial up the intensity and adrenaline to create an experience of total war. We've retooled and improved every aspect of the game...". The game is sporting a completly redesigned graphics engine as well as more intuitive gameplay. The setting of the game will take place in East Asia.

This seems extremly wierd. This all means one of 2 things, the Ghost Recon series is getting completly re-done, from scratch or the suits at Ubisoft don't know what they are talking about. Hi-tech war? Large Scale? Chaos? Ghost Recon is not known for any of these features. Anyways my bullshit detector is spiking. Maybe they'll have some dev shots at E3.
