The next first person shooter to hit the PS2 will be non-other than Area 51. This FPS allows you to infiltrate the U.S. Government's top-secret and heavily guarded military installation.

“Area 51 pulls the player into the depth of the conspiracies behind the secret military base. As Lt. Nick Cross, a US Army Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) specialist, who, with his team, must investigate the mysterious viral outbreak that has severed communications with the base. During his investigation, Lt. Cross stumbles across alien creatures and becomes infected with a biological mutagen that begins to affect his very humanity. To save the Earth (and himself!), Lt. Cross must fight to solve the enigma of Area 51.”

“Multiplayer and online play will be included with the project when it ships! Inevitable has a strong experience base with online console games, so we’re going to do everything possible to make the world-wide experience great for everyone!”

Area 51 is slated for a 2004 release and is the next online First Person Shooter lined up for the Playstation 2. Hopefully this will exceed the shortcomings of some of the recently released ps2 FPS's. Hopefully with Inevitables already proven track record with Tribes Aerial Assault(which is the best FPS experience to be found on PS2 at the moment), Area 51 will be able to rise above the competition.

Already Inevitable is boasting their new FPS as being ahead of the pack:

“...We believe that we have created a look that is unsurpassed on the PS2..."

Watch out for this one in 2004

Yea because they have worked heavily on a FPS comprised of almost ALL online and team based gameplay, they should do a good job with Area 51's multiplayer features. I am looking forward to this game even more now. Especialy since warhammer, XIII, and MOH:Rising sun, for the most part have fallen short of their expectations.

All I know is, they better add a ton of maps to Area 51's online gameplay. MAPS=GOOD.
