Hey guys, I'm currently on the hunt for a DVD Remote for my PS2. It's model 39001 and I want to know the compatability with the IR receiver.

1. Does my model PS2 actually have the built in IR receiver? Which means I don't need the Remote sensor, just the Remote itself.

2. How much does it retail for nowadays?

I tried looking on the playstation site and all that showed up was the new DVD remote for the 70001 PS2 model. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS- How much does the official sony multitap retail for now?

I have the same model as you (39001), and I can vouch for MasterChief's word that there's no IR receiver built in if you have an iLink port. In other words, model 50001 and above have an IR receiver. Thus...

1. No, so you'll need to scour up the old version of the remote that includes the receiver. The new version has no receiver and is only for the models 50001 and above, so even if you got the remote alone, I'm not sure if it'd work. The easiest way to tell in-store is whether or not it has a power button (green). If it doesn't, that's the one you need.

2. It retails for $14.99, but Circuit City has it for $7.99 right now; it's in this week's ad.

There's a newer DVD remote for the PStwo (70001)?
