I don't have i.link but I do have a network adapter.
I wanted to know if I could play game like Armored Core 3, Gran Turismo 3, Project Eden (?) or Unreal Championship (the only one which I don't have.)
So would they work? Anyone want to try?

Nah it won't work. The i.Link is firewire, and pushes a lot of bandwidth between the 2 machines. I really don't think it can be done. I have heard in general that its impossible to tunnel i.Link compatible games.

It really makes you wonder, why the Armored Core series hasn't been made online in the US. If armored core nexus isn't gonna be online compatible, I'm gonna go ballistic.

The one game that can be tunneled is Time Splitters 2. It has LAN features. I will be getting it soon, if you or anyone else has it, would be great to have some people to try playing it with.

Man I can't even find information about i.link at sony's website they don't even have it listed as a feature anymore. I am working on trying to find a list of i.link compatible games. What really aggravates me is, in order to set up a Time Crisis gun arcade with multiple systems, I now have to track down crappy used or repaired systems with ilink connections because sony goddamn pushed the older ilink compatible systems out of the market. This is just horrible.

So I need to scramble and get some money together and get a halfway decent stack of cash to get another i.link compatible PS2 or I will be stuck buy some total piece of garbage that is on its last legs whenever I decide I wanna do that.

Sony ripped out the component obviously to make the cost of production cheaper. How lame.

Yea, when I got my PS2 I was wondering where the firewire port was.. ATV Offroad Fury 2 has an i.Link option, but my PS2 doesn't have an i.Link! WTF? Oh well, not like I was gonna use it anyway...

After hours of searching I eventually found a few URL's on co-op console games and then searched some news groups and found the rest. NO ilink info on playstation.com and no sites listed the games. Just baffling. Well I got the list up. 13 games from what I could track down.

How do you link this game? do you need a seperate cable? I dont think you can plug two ps2 with network adaptors since it doesnt support online..... And is this game possible of tunneling for online play?

Yes you need an i.link firewire cable. Your PS2 must not be a new model. It has to have the i.link firewire port on the front. It really angers me that sony TOOK OUT a network port from the newer models. Now I have to hunt around looking for older PS2 models and shit and its near impossible to get a new sealed PS2 with an i.link port. So frustrating. But me and my bro both have i.link compatible ps2's so its all good. But I still want a spare so i can hook up a network in my room(sweeeetness).

IGN has this supersweet awsome tutorial on it here: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/087/087206p1.html

You can't tunnel i.link unfortunatly.

Have any of you used the iLink cable with Gran Turismo 3 before? If so, how well did it run, and what did you think of it?

I've been planning on building an iLink racing setup, specifically with GT3 in mind, and I was trying to see if it would be worth it.

Thanks!

I personally have not linked it before. However I do know that GT3 has been a part of MLG gaming for a while now. So if it performs well enough to be featured in their tournaments I'm sure it will perform well.

That's hot.

If only i.Link cabling wasn't so goddamned expensive. Even moreso if you want more than two systems linked together. Before I got GT4, I wanted to get a GT3 multiplayer night going with some friends, but it's cheaper just to use GT4, my router, and the network adaptors most of my friends have anyway. Kind of a kick in the sack to gamers from SCE, first dropping i.Link ports, and then new PS2 models dropping the HDD option. You know the HDD forum isn't even up at Sony's official message boards anymore? I mean, damn. Sorry, I'm ranting.

Anyway, i.Link might be expensive as hell to set up, and difficult to find the proper components, but kudos to PD for including that option in GT3.

Expensive? nahhh

$6.00 for i.link cable Wink

http://www.jandaman.com/games.mvc?p=ps2linkcable&Category_code=PS2

It all depends on the situation, whether you would use i.link or LAN. If you have 2 copies of GT3 and 2 compatible PS2's....all you would need is a single i.link cable. Instead of a router.....and network configs on each memory card....and 2 ethernet cables....2 network adaptors.

If you own Armored Core Nexus (since it comes with 2 discs)...you wouldn't even need to have a friend who owns the game. All you would need is a PS2 your game and your cable, and tell him to bring over his system.
