I just logged on right now and there are over 700 players online. Even though PSU is coming to the PS2, I still think this game is the PSO of the PS2. Mainly because capcom bit a ton from PSO for this game. And PSU is shaking up the formula a bit. Also I am pretty sure this game uses SNAP.

I have only created my player and still have yet to get into some action. I just wanted to sign online and scope things out.

Anyone looking for an RPG for the PS2, especially if you are a fan of PSO, would be wise to snatch up this game as soon as possible.

I am so happy right now. I finally own the RPG I have been waiting for to fill the void in my ps2 online collection.

For some it's FFXI, for others its Champions, for me....it is Monster Hunter. Can't wait to get into this game when I wake up. Going to finally catch some rest. Have been up forever. Only 4.5 hours of sleep in 2 days O_o

I'm gonna have to get this game. I've been meaning to since it came up but I just never did. I was one to beta test it and it was mad fun. I'll just swing by my local blockbuster and see if they have it. If not. A trip to the mall is due.

Yes but Monster Hunter is not currently listed on their online store. It can be found at Outpost.com

They do sell games but their selection doesn't have everything they have at the store. Atleast in regards to the store near me.

I will take this chance to recant some of the things I have said at the beginning of this thread!!!!! This game is only similar to PSO in its interface and structure. Things like the 4 players, the maps, the buddy lists with "comments" you can add like in pso's guild cards. The fact that there is a check room, and quest board, and item upgrades etc etc. Plus the whole animal part combining thing.

However Monster Hunter is not a leveling game. While online you get experience points for completting quests, offline there is no EXP. In-fact your character doesn't get ANY stats at all. Everything revolves around your gear and weapons. You also can only carry 1 weapon with you in the field. Online EXP is more like a ranking system more than anything.

Monster Hunter is more about survival, item combining, and grinding to aquire money to get better and stronger weapons / gear. The game is most definatly a grind to play. Fishing, cooking meat, and hunting for items will take up a rediculious amount of time. You are almost always out classed as far as carnivores, and usually will get spanked unless you know what you are doing. Me and my brother still havn't slayed our first dragon yet. IT IS HARD!!!!

I just want to warn people, that this game will take a while to get into. I had been playing it for about a week and a half. Then last night I finally "cought the bug" and the addiction set in.

This game is really unique, and stylish. It is like PSO merged with an offline action game or something. Very cool.

(sadly i have cought wind this game does suffer from cheating, just like PSO as well, thought not as bad, will provide more info as time goes on. No pking as of yet, but definatly item duplication as people normally complain of seeing users with weapons they shouldn't have yet at their level while playing online. I pulled much of this info from the official capcom boards)
