This is something I've been thinking about as of late. As of right now, Universe will be using keyboard as opposed to headset. The game will sport an all new symbol/smiley system compared to that of Online. While talking about headsets in this game seems like a pointless matter, I know a lot of PSO players post here and I would like to know what they think.

Having played both Dreamcast and X-Box PSO, I would say headset is better. Way better. It is simply amazing. It was a lot more cordinated then a keyboard. Instead of having to drop the controller and pick up the keyboard, all I had to do was speak. No buttons had to be pressed or anything. Just imagine playing PSO with three other friends beside you, and you have an idea of how it worked.

Messages were sent back and forth faster, and there was a lot more communication. I know a lot of people, including myself, don't feel like typing sometimes, and just play without talking at all. I would get tired of having to pick up the keyboard and talk. It happend a lot on FFXI. I would just go find other things to do while in a party. This kind of made the PSO experince tedious for me. There was a lot of "OMG U HAV TEH HAX" going around, and a lot of people would spam the lobby with bots.

Beleive it or not, I'm playing Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 right now. I don't feel like sitting in the lobby and talking to people with the keyboard. It gets too boring because you can't even understand what most people are saying. I also don't like the screen clutter as well. A lot of people would just sit there and continously type random crap over and over. It got old real quick.

Now, with headset, just about all of those problems would not occur. Almost 100%. But I'm not saying it wouldn't be perfect.

1) Audio Whores. Playing their music over the mic.

2) People would have a hard time role playing (although I've never seen any anyways).

3) People of younger age, or those of opposite sex may not enjoy the revealment. I'm 14, but my voice is a lot deeper then others, so it doesn't bother me too much. But I know several girls don't like it either.

Also, on the X-Box version, there was a lag. It'd take two seconds for your voice to be heard. But I'm pretty sure that was a minor glitch.

Overall, headset is the future. I just don't see why more developers use it.

One and only one point negates the whole headset issue: Extremely small and busty FOnewearls should NOT have a deep male voice.

OK, well, maybe it doesn't negate the whole point, but that does kind of ruin it for me =P

I'd prefer the mic for that. In Halo 2, it got annoying because you'd have:

Kids that just learned how to swear and thought they'd share it with the world

Audio whores that play music

Abrasive bastards that shouldn't be allowed near the general public anyway

Heavy breathers (God that takes some creativity!)

and spammers (yes, verbal spamming is just as real and twice as annoying)

But, still, keyboards suck. You can't be in battle and use it like you can a mic.

The game will most likely not support the headset, but there are always third-party PC applications such as Ventrilo and TeamSpeak. And since you'll distribute the server/room name and password to a group of like-minded (and hopefully polite) friends, you won't have to endure any kids screaming about chocolate milk.

Yes , headset would be nice , but sadly I don't own one currently for ps2, and with my connection on XBL it works 70% of the time.
fact is there will always be morons either way KB or headset.

As for the punk in the game everybody should have just left or someone should have kicked him out , so that he'd get up and get his own Chocolate milk.
