I could have put this as news, but too tired to make the graphic for the news post. Over at pso-world they have info on PSU pricing. From a BUSINESS standpoint their plan is a mastermind plan.

Apparently for a 1 month signup it costs you more money. If your renewing it is cheaper. This discourages people who play 1 month here...1 month there... And encourages people to renew every month so your not paying nearly as much.

This actually stinks for the consumer, who will get gauged playing PSU in an erratic fashion. (PSU is still cheaper than most MMO's, including both FFXI and EQoA, that is if your playing EQoA at a 1 month rate. Yearly its extremly cheap).

On Sega's end however, this is a money making perfect plan. One that I havn't seen anywhere else. Has anyone else used this pricing scheme before? This is the first time I have seen this in effect.

By the way, other companies like Sony have different 3 month, 6 month, and yearly plans available. However the PSU scheme directly encourages people to regularly renew rather than pay one month, break, and pay another month.

Interesting plan, any word on how much on the prices of first month and price of renewal? This is probably what is going to determine whether or not I will buy PSU. Also any news on LAN, split-screen or any other form of offline multiplayer? (if there are any other kinds.) This also plays in a big factor in whether or not I'll be getting PSU.

Interesting, although I was looking for a free trial, this works out for those who decide to renew, I hope we don't hear about kids who kept starting over instead of going the cheaper route.

I love the split-screen multi-mode on PSO for the GCN since that's pretty much the only way I play it. My brother and I have had a blast with split-screen, so I hope that it's in PSU as well.

PSU will hve no offline multiplayer, hell it won't even have any offline gameplay that is like online. In the offline mode you only have a normal single player campaign, much in the same veign as your traditional RPG. The PSO-esque online mode is available only online.

Also for those of you seeing prices floating around the internet, that is for the Japanese version. Remember the JP version of GC PSO is currently priced differently, with cheaper rate options. So the US version may be 1-2 dollars more.
