| Hi everyone. Well, I'm in a pretty difficult situation. Here's my story. My co-worker gave me a free PS2. The catch? He stated that the cd-drive stopped reading cds. I figured, hell, no big deal. I cleaned the drive and all. Yet, here's the bigger problem. He failed to mention that the ribbon for the PS2 was disconnected from the motherboard. After several attempts, I got the cable back in. However, when the system boots up, the analog light will go on the controller itself, but I get no reaction from the controller. Can anyone help me with the problem? I would hate to give up on the system, cause I would use it to play online and shit like that. Any help would be appreciated... | ||||

Your best bet for this problem would be to track down a website that focusing on mod-chips and Playstation 2 modification. These people are constantly taking apart PS2's and know a lot about how they work. I bet they could give you some more immediate advice on what the problem is with your console.

| I'll have to check it out. I'll be disgusted if I can't get it to run. There's so many good games for the PS2, and it would be a shame if I had to scrap the system. | ||||

Well I could sit here and coach you through the whole procedure BUT lol that would be a very long explanation. There are many helpful resources online that show, tell, and demonstrate a solution to your problem. You might be searching awhile until you find what you are looking for. I would say just from reading your post, that something is going on with the controller board ... Good luck.

| I'm going to keep looking. It just sucks, since I pushed the ribbon in pretty good. I read on the net on a forum in which the guy had the same problem. Someone told him to put a piece a of plastic where the ribbon plugs into the board to make it really tight. I might try that. I might purchase a 10.00 online book that shows how to fix PS2 problems. It just bites, cause I didn't have my hopes on getting a PS2 and now it's in my hands....broken. :S | ||||

Whatever you do dont waste your money purchasing a guide online or from anywhere else. Your guide is right there at google.com if you spend enough time. I guess if you want to do that you can. I kno exactly the ribbon your talking about that got disconnected. It's so thin and very hard to put back in without damaging the ribbon. You could buy another broke playstation II on ebay and then switch the parts also....

Man it blows so much! I got a butterknife and forced the cable as tight as possible... than i closed the flap tight as well. This is going to suck if I can't get it to work. I guess I'll get some bucks on eBay if worse comes to worse... |
