I bought Jak X Combat Racing, and after playing the game, the similarities between Jak X and POD Speedzone for the Dreamcast were pretty remarkable. If you come from the Dreamcast site, then this thread will strike a chord with you. This game does tap into some Dreamcast nostalgia. The gameplay in each of these games is the same. Pick up weapon items and attack while racing.

POD Speedzone is on the left, and Jak X is on the right.

1.) As you can see the menu designs are very similar.
2.) The car select and customize areas feature a rotating car in a circle.
3.) Both game have similar booster effects.

On a side note, I will clarrify the functionality of the keyboard support. You can send basic messages which are on the screen temporarily. They pop up on the screen, and then dissappear. You can do this in the LAN mode and Online mode. If you go online, you can access a "clan room" feature. Which allows for an actual chat room window, and you can host games just for clan members to play in. This is pretty sweet. This option isn't available for LAN, so one would have to only use the popup kb chat function to send messages. The game does have headset support.

One interesting aspect about this game, is that it has a deathmatch mode. Thank god this isn't being overused online. Most people are racing online, and to be honest the racing is more fun than the deathmatch.

This game is a high quality title, and anyone would be pleased with it as a purchase.

BTW, our clan name on Jak X is "PODspeedzone" Very Happy ... (because onlineconsoles wouldn't fit hehe)

Those two games look amazingly similar.

Has anyone tried this game over ICS to see how its handled?

I have not tried it over ICS yet. I don't have a PC setup for dialup internet access. Only my consoles are setup for that.

I am the only one that currently owns the title here. From what I have seen online, the game should run well over ICS with a few players. At most we might have to do 2 humans + 1-2 bots. I think it should run well. I never encountered much lag or disconnects.

Shame this isnt cross region as I just picked this up today, once again only 4.99 GBP. Am I still only the 2nd person with it?

Funnily enough I also picked up POD for the PC yesterday (POD not POD 2) mainly as I missed POD 2 on the DC. It looks pretty similar as well to all the pictures above.

The game is not cross region compatible, so there are 2 PDB's for it. Three people own the North American version, and you are the first to own the PAL version.

Let me know how you like the game. It should be right up your alley Smile
