I guess it all depends on what you are expecting from this game, and what you enjoy playing. If you are a diehard PSO fan then this game might be a bit too different for your tastes. However if you are looking for something that is similar to PSO, but has some new changes, then you might enjoy it. Its hard to say because some key elements from the old PSO are now missing with PSU. So some people are going to take too it more than others.

I will be picking this game up tomorrow. I hope I can find the time to play it, as I just bought Mortal Kombat Armageddon and it is highly addicting on and offline. I am fully optimistic about these 2 PS2 online titles holding me over until I buy my PS3 around March or April of next year.

To shed some light on what nikon was mentioning and how a PSO veteran feels about PSU, here are my impressions:

I was given the opportunity to play the Xbox 360 beta and well... I have to admit that I wasn't extremely impressed. My favorite aspects of PSO (the 'rhythmic' pace of the battle system, performance, ease of play and music) had either been watered-down or stripped out completely. The music in particular was a let-down. It felt like somebody grabbed a Casio keyboard circa 1985 and just jammed out some basic melodies. The atmosphere the music contributed to PSO was completely absent.

The item synthesis portion seemed pretty well thought-out, though I only made a few Trimates. I could envision that if you had the money and materials to burn, item creation could net you a few pals, not to mention being a pretty lucrative venture. This and the re-working of MAGs into Partner Machinery were the two most productive additions/revisions to the game.

The cities felt almost too bloated. Every time I wanted to visit the item shop, buy a weapon or photon art, I had to endure at least 2 to 3 loading screens. All the stores should of been condensed into one market (I.E: PSO, Monster Hunter). The art in the cities was pretty nice though, especially Neudaiz and Holtes City.

Am I completely dissatisified with PSU? Not enough to deter me from buying it. From what little of it I played (supposedly 10% of the full game), it seemed like a competent game. I will likely be receiving it as a Christmas present. It's just too bad that the magic and charm of PSO has been sapped in order to create a product that appeals to MMORPG players.
