Ok so yea this game came out a couple months ago. So why am I making a news post about it in Febuary? Well the fact is I recently aquirred a copy of the game. I was startled to learn that most reviews on the internet about Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior contained false information. This then trickled its way on down to gamers and forums and a lot of people avoided picking up this title. If I had known how this game really is back in November....I would have most definatly payed $49.99 for this game.

Many ezines, such as gamespot and ign, reviewed Fire Warrior while dishing out innacurate information as well as leaving 1 critical detail completly from the articles. This thread is not to rip into these ezines, however to inform you gamers on the real deal. To inform you how Fire Warrior really holds up in the online department.

Review sites listed Fire Warrior as having only 4 maps, and this is probobly the main factor which detoured people from purchasing this game initially. The game infact has 8 online maps, 4 are for DM and 4 are for CTF/TDM. Their are 8 different maps total. Also most articles instead of actually listing the games features went on to complain about how the whole flag and dm thing has been done before and that Fire Warrior brings nothing new to the table. This confused readers as well, since the most popular review sites didn't list the games modes specifically. The game has Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag.

Reviewers also said that there is abosolutly no indication of when you have killed your enemy. That they just fall to the ground in a heap. In single player story mode this might have been somewhat true. However in my experiences with online mode this is hardly the case. When you shoot someone with the rocket launcher, rail rifle, grenades or other heavy explosives, your opponent busts into hunks of bloody flesh just like in Quake 3 or any other FPS.

Finally, a key feature which in my honest opinion is something we all here at onlineconsoles look for in an online game. We hate it when a game gets ripped away from us and it's online functions taken down. Well Kujo Entertainment prepaired for that. They included an IP field so you can manually add another users IP address and play directly against them without any central match making server needed. yes you heard correctly, Fire Warrior will be online compatible forever. No need to worry that the service could be terminated, eliminating your ability to play a game you paid for online.

In-fact they even say exactly this RIGHT in the manual:\

Quote:
The IP Address Input will alow you to enter the IP address of a known game. This can be useful in the event that you wish to join a specific game with a known IP, rather than search for that game in the active games list. It will also allow games to be connected should GameSpy support ever cease.

So here is a repeat of exactly what Fire Warrior offers in its online mode:

Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior
- 2-8 players
- broadband only
- 3 game modes DM, CTF, TDM
- 8 multi-player maps
- 12 player skins
- lobby chat using on-screen qwerty keyboard
- uses GameSpy matching service
- has a direct-ip add function, so the game can never go offline, ever

The game is currently retailing at videogame specialty stores for $19.99 brand new. Fire Warrior is currently the 2nd most feature intensive First Person Shooter on the PS2, 2nd only to Tribes Aerial Assault. I just thought I would bring these details to light so gamers looking for a decent first person shooter wouldn't leave this game to sit on store shelves and collect dust. Especially for $19.99, you can't go wrong.

That right there makes me want to give someone a firm handshake. That, folks, is responsible and respectable video game development.

If only this philosophy was more prevalent among developers.

YES~!!!! Let me know when you get it apple. This game whoops serious ass. Capture the flag is really fun and some of the maps are rather well done. ALSO you will be extatic to know that even though it only has 2 controleler configurations they are very very very similar to A and B configs in tribes. Which is great because I want all my FPS's to play the same.

Here is a quick rundown:
Left Analog=movement
Right Analog= looking
triangle=grenades
square=change and pick up new weapons
X=action button/zoom scope
circle=reload
L1=jump
L2=crouch
R1=primary fire
R2=secondary fire

and config 2 is just this all flipped around....looking on left and movement on right analog and so on.

So even though a few buttons are changed the similarity to a base tribes config rules. Specialy the grenades on triangle and jump on L1 Very Happy

Nikon: How is the single-player mode? Anything inspired there, or is it run-of-teh-mill?

Completly run of the mill, extremly basic and standard. Move forward and kill enemies and find keys to unlock doors to further areas. if you die you have to start way back at a previous checkpoint. Some sites bitched about this aspect. But jsut remember back to mario on NES here people. So just get some perspective and don't bitch about this.

However even though it's run of the mill, I still enjoy it, primarily because of the insane shootouts. That is the 1 thing the single player mode is even worth playing for. These intense shootouts. You really feel like your hunkered down behind a barrier dueling it out in some sort of wild western shootout or something. Really cool.

Other than that single player mode has nothing else unique about it. Just standard. My primary reason for owning this game is the online play.

If your looking for a rather compelling single player first person shooter experience, Judge Dredd vs Judge Death is the way to go.

This is going to be my next PS2 game. The online modes sound awesome and I would probably get a kick out of the single-player game, even though it's pretty standard. Smile

Apple: . I know you run a forum about the XIII called xii.isfun.net, correct? I think I've played with some people from the forum. And yes, XIII IS FUN (but why is the default looking speed so slow?). Once it goes to $25-$20, I'll snatch it up.

Hehehe... I got Fur Fighters to play MP with people this week today when I went to the mall, but when I go back I intend to get Warhammer. (So maybe in a couple of days.)

Can 2 people play together online like in Tribes?

P.S. I also got a game for $1.50 that you can play on a dvd player or the PS2's DVD player (duh) and it's so bad I laughed. It's supposed to be 3D but the glasses are bad and the acting is ridiculous.

Did I ever get an XBOX LIVE game that had the trial? Nope. Sad

And I'm down for Warhammer at anytime. Let's have a game Sunday sometime.

I also rented SOCOM II. Want to play that too MC?

I should be getting Warhammer tomorrow for $15.

Fur Fighter's Viggo's Revenge for PS2. At first I acted like it was an FPS and was disappointed and hated the controls. Then I changed to a different control set and treated it as thrid person action with the auto-aim on and it suddenly became a whole lot more fun. So treating it more like Rayman Arena without the races and focused on the "Fulff" Match made it a very good MP game which was what I wanted. Good console MP fun for vacation since I'll have a lot of people here. I'm thinking about Pac-Man Fever too. Man I waste a lot of money (as further pointed out by my cousin.) Oh ya it's not online.

The DVD game is a joke. The acting is where they "hit" you with an axe and you stop and fall. It's funny from the acting and the gameplay isn't that bad sadly. I wish the 3-D glasses were better.
