July 14th 2009 to July 15th
Players (4): TheMytho, DaMan, Gforce, lordnikon Duration: 10:55 PM EDT to 12:45 AM I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun this game was. This was my first time seriously playing this game online and it was absolutely crazy. I must have said "This is nuts!" out loud several times over the course of the first few matches. We played a variety of modes, starting with Deathmatch, Infection, back to Deathmatch, CTF, then finally concluding with Deathmatch. A bunch of randoms slowly made their way in during our first few games, which allowed us to have a good group to play Infection with. I will note and disable the auto map sizer for future reference. The game doesn't clue you in to how many people the maps accommodate. Last edited by TheMytho on Sun Jul 26, 2009 7:20 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Good games. I had just finished some work and noticed you guys were playing so I hopped on. If I hadn't seen DaMan's away message on Jabber I would have missed the session.
Yea Area 51 has a feature that scales the maps automatically based on player count. Something that 'game developers' probobly jerked off to when they first though of it. However in practice, it is so damn stupid. For someone like me who has memorized the maps and where all of the items are, being greeted with a door that doesn't opens, a loud buzzing noise and a dumb message on the screen is beyond frustrating. I can't even count the number of times I died unnecessarily because I was disoriented from not being able to go through a doorway. Anyone who has played serious FPS's like Quake or Unreal can relate to this. Entering a map that you know back to front, only to have it suddenly mutated into something else can be disorienting. There are no visual cues to inform you whether a door is accessible or not. Yea Area 51 gets really crazy online. You should see the game with a full player count in deathmatch. It is complete chaos. Too bad this game doesn't have LAN. I was really frustrated when it was first released that it didn't have LAN and still am today. Lately though the game has deteriorated into a snipe/cheater fest. |

They were all pretty good games and I was surprised at the player counts.
Those players in the beginning were cracking me up with all their random yelling and screaming when we played infection. I also noticed it when that guy was urging everyone to leave since he was going to host a game that was exactly the same as ours; heh heh, he still came back like a half hour later. I'm kinda half and half on the map scaling feature. While it's a little disorienting to slam into the same locked door 50 times in a round, I like it it because it minimizes the amount of time before you run into an enemy. Like one game of infection we played; it was nearly five or six minutes before I ran into anyone as the mutant and it could've been a lot more in my mind if map scaling was turned off. Speaking of maps, I REALLY hated that one map with the giant freaking green vat in the middle of it. Lord knows how many times I lost points because of that stinking thing. Lastly, I still gotta get on this games aiming. While the game is about as smooth an experience you'll have on a user-hosted PS2 FPS, the aiming is still crappy as hell to me. I can't name how many times everything went to hell when I simply wanted to aim upwards or diagonally at someone. |

Good Games!
It was fun having all those other players join in; although since I don't have a mic I don't know if there were any repeats of some of the trash before. I tried to keep track of the OC players
Mytho 37 GForce 9 DaMan 6 Round 2 Mytho 18 GForce 9 DaMan 5 Another DM not sure which Round Mytho 39 GForce 25 DaMan 20 Final Round Mytho 46 Lordnikon 37 GForce 23 (this might be wrong, if it is sorry bout that GForce!) DaMan 12 Infection it just seemed like I could'nt infect anyone and I was just running around getting killed. liked my chances dual wielding anything. my only thing was I guess I was'nt paying attention to when one of the last games was switched from Infection back to Deathmatch and i'm running with a guy shooting at me GForce i'm feeling ya on that Green vat for all the time I was alive after falling in I assumed there must be a way out, that I just could'nt find that's the price I pay for thinking 'I can make that jump!' |

^^ Hahahaha, I feel you on the hard time with infection. It should've been obvious from the start, but I see that the best way to get others infected is by working in groups. Basically, that's why I started sticking really close to you in that second to last game of infection we played since I was not having ANY luck trying to take Mytho or Nikon down on my own. Course when you're patient zero, it gets realllly hard to infect someone else.
You were doing a good job with dual welding to I noticed. It was downright hilarious when you managed to kill me almost 5 times in a row that one game; I was like, "damn, if I run into DaMan ONE more time." And yea on that green vat; I hated it so much that I was GLAD when a guy killed me as I was on my way down there once again. Oh yea, I don't know if you already know it, but you can enable output of voice chat through your TV speakers under what I believe to be headset settings. So yea, you can't talk but you can definitely hear what's being said. |
