Which one shall I get? Which one do most people play? (population). Is there any difference between both titles? (gameplay, framerate, gameplay etc.)

get cod2 bro since it has a lan mode, meaning it can be played online forever through xlink. Cod 1 does not have lan.

Both are great games, I say both...
What is Xlink? I downloaded it and read about it on the forums but I'm very confused about it's purpose and how to use it.

They both use Gamespy, so the chances of them going down are very, very slim.

While SG-17 is correct, the LAN feature is great to have in the event that online support ceases.

I have yet to try Finest Hour out, but judging from footage I have seen, the games are virtually identical. I know CoD2: BRO has tanks in multiplayer, but am unsure if Finest Hour has vehicles in multiplayer. CoD2: BRO is also the only WWII shooter with community support here at OC.

If you have to make a decision between one game or the other, CoD2 is the way to go.

Yes that is correct, but it should be clarrified a little. The other COD games are not banned or anything. The Forums, Game Organization, and PGT all allow for any game to be played or talked about. However we do not have a Player Database option for Finest Hour or COD3. The reason being, is that we simply don't have enough users here at the site to segment across two or three different Call of Duty games.

Plus as already stated, COD2 BRO has LAN support making it online forever in the event that these games are terminated. So focusing on the 1 title helps to grow a solid long lasting player base here at OC, and one that can't be yanked away when a company decides its time to take the game offline. Which is again why the LAN is so important.

I suggest picking up the Legacy bundle, you get both games for $20.
