without the ability to create an account, the longevity of this game is seriously being hindered. There are still people who can add to the number of people who play this game. Mytho, I'll let you know when accounts can be made because you NEED this game.

Hmmm....everybody complained about the Stats-issue so EA did something against it. But has anyone adressed the registration-issue yet? I'm not sure EA is aware of that problem....

They should, I believe it was included in some of the messages people sent to them (that I saw on the EA forums). But they might not and someone should send them something about it.

Posted Thu Sep 24, 2009 9:35 pm:

I sent a support "ticket" to Gamespy through their support site. I pointed out the fact that the "Gamespy/IGN Entertainment Privacy Policy and User Agreement" could not be downloaded preventing the creation of new accounts. Hopefully, knowing Gamespy has much better customer service than EA, they will respond quickly and let me know if they will be working on that. Neutral

they still haven't replied...

i'm gonna lose respect for Gamespy if they don't respond

Many players are asking for accounts in this Thread: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/165/276768.page
But nobody sends an email to Gamespy or EA. During the stats-issue they "bombarded" the people at EA with complaints.
It could be that this is a convenient way for gamespy to let the game die. Why should the servers stop sending the agreement? This issue could be nowhere near as complex as the stats issue.... I mean its a plain text-file to download and accept and it worked flawlessly over the years. Now, at the end of PS2's lifecycle, its suddenly impossible and this simple problem cant be resolved? I think that this could be a realistic scenario.

Sorry for my english guys, Im a bit tired ^^

ugh...

I don't think sending an email to EA for this one would help since its an IGN/Gamespy thing, so Gamespy is the one to send to, like I did. But they haven't responded for 4 days. Like you said, they could be letting the game die by this.

If that is the case, what a dick move from Gamespy/EA. They need to either admit that Modern Combat is dead or fix the problem. This indecision does nobody any good.

ea does not care about ps2 users.
even though madden 2010 goes online i doubt they even produce and profit off of bf2 anymore

Heh heh heh, I can picture Kanye saying that...

Though I've been off Battlefield awhile, I do dislike hearing new players can't register on the game. They deserve to enjoy the game just as much as I have over these years. I still say stop worrying yourselves about this though guys. I've continued not to worry myself because really, think about it, why would you waste your manpower to bring one feature of your service back up to speed when you know you're just going to bring it all down immediately after??

In terms of an aged online game that's free to play online, I just don't see people going to much trouble to hide things from the fanbase. Let it still be known that Battlefield is my favorite online FPS EVER.....

On the Battlefield 2 DVD-Case its said that EA can turn off the online service 30days after announcing it on battlefield.ea.com
I think EA is bound to that statement. Now for me the situation looks like this: EA is not going to shutdown the gameservers until they announce it
on their website. But there are some issues that need to be resolved. Like superhero659 said, they arent making any profit out of BF2. The servers are producing costs and there is no direct income out of the game imo. No advertisements in the game and not many players are still buying it these days. Resolving the issues would produce more costs. I think we should be glad that the game is still running and that EA even solved the stats-issue.
Most of us have an account so lets play the heck out of this game until the servers shut down Smile

Ah, yes. That is correct Karlsuke. EA has an obligation to announce the shutdown 30 days before the game is terminated.

At this point though, they need to really let the community know what is going on. Whatever faith the remaining BF2 players have in EA is probably dwindling. They either need to take BF2 MC out back and pull the trigger, or give us some time frame on when the issue regarding new accounts will be fixed. The indecision here is the only thing stopping me from giving this game a shot.

If Gamespy runs the servers and supplies the terms of agreement wouldn't that mean they are more of a factor in this. If EA does not run the online servers why would they be making or not making any money in the first place.

Hmmm.... But Gamespy has to benefit form running the servers for EA. I dont think EA just asked them for a favour. And during the Stats-issue everybody was contacting EA, although the servers are from gamespy. EA has outsourced the multiplayer-part to gamespy and I think it's still their job to solve the problem, even if its just sending the user-complaints directly to gamespy. EA knows which persons to contact, I guess.

GameSpy does not host the servers for any of their games. They just supply the master list (aka lobby) which takes up almost no resources to do.

So EA "runs" the servers while Gamespy only provides a master list?

Posted Thu Oct 01, 2009 8:15 pm:

I assume Gamespy isn't going to respond at this point, since it has been a week

Posted Thu Oct 01, 2009 8:20 pm:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support.

The first response I heard back to my inquiry is that these servers are actually run by Gamespy but I'm still awaiting confirmation.

If you need further assistance please visit our knowledge base at http://support.ea.com.

Thank you
Troy K.
Electronic Arts Customer Support

this was taken from the forum link in karlsuke's post. I'm pretty sure EA doesn't have anything to do with the servers anymore looking at this. Why would they anyways? If they did the servers wouldn't shut down, just like Timesplitters: FP, a few years ago.

Posted Thu Oct 01, 2009 8:22 pm:

EA seems to know who to contact though...and Gamespy for some darn reason seems to be ignoring my "ticket" on their support site.
