hey, their support site is working again. But they say the following at the front page: "IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION

If you need support for your in-game login or PS2 game, please look in your game manual for your game's support contact. Your game maker provides expert support to their game. This is support for using GameSpy Software. In-game logins are supported by your game's maker."

So it looks like we have to contact EA again and it seems that this is the reason why you didnt get any answer, No_Limits.

But didn't EA refer everyone with log-in issues to Gamespy in the first place? So now all Gamespy is doing is pointing the finger at EA, thus the circle has been completed. Neutral

I looked in my manual and it says to "see gamespyarcade.com/legal and battlefield.ea.com for mpre information". These are the only two links I could find relating to support in the manual and if Gamespy isn't responding, I guess we'll have to go to EA.

I think Gamespy is working with instances that only respond to complaints from e.g. EA. We all show the issue to EA and then, if it is important enough, they will send a notification to gamespy to fix it.

I like what you guys are doing!. I wish i could help, but i don't really have a clue what to do. Should we just keep bugging them about this or what?

I just bought BF2 and am keen for online. But i'll stick with SOCOM: Combined Assault online untill this blows over and they will fix it.

At this point, all we can do is bug EA about the new account issue, even though I believe they said to contact Gamespy about it initially. It isn't good when both companies point the finger at each other and say, "No, it's their problem." It really make me suspicious that they fixed the stats issue even though both the account and stats issue happened at around the same time. Neutral

Finally some news. I got this again out of this thread: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/210/276768.page

Here is the most important part:

"Caleb,

As of last summer we have received numerous complaints of the Account Creation section for Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. We have notified your office of this matter several times as Electronic Arts Redwood Shores office has requested that the online play option be discontinued as of September 1st 2009, but we have not received the mandatory affidavit that is required stating that GameSpy will no longer carry online play for this particular game. So as our protocol states: "If mandatory confirmation of disconnection and release of server play is not received, ANY AND ALL NEW ACCOUNTS ( I, David have highlighted this section in Capital letters) WILL BE SUSPENDED UNTIL REVOCATION OR RECEPTION OF THE AFFIDAVIT IS ATTAINED. This is an unfortunate matter as many fans of the game still play this title. An average of 200 online members can be on GameSpy servers on a solid weekend for BF2 PS2. But that is our guidelines for "limbo dc" as we call it at GameSpy.

And pertaining to the Stat Track system, we have decided to maintain this option for gameplay as BF fans have requested this option to be back up and running, but I have been advised that any other maintenance request will be rejected until the affidavit is revoked by EA or attained and documented. So you might want to forward this to your senior correspondent of online play so we can continue providing the most satisfying online play option for your great titles.

Sincerely,

(Name withheld upon forwarding of this message to me: David) "

My english is not that good to understand this completely, but it looks like this game is done....

Here is what this means. Employees involved with marketing at EA contacted GameSpy randomly telling them to terminate the game. However they did not send GameSpy the required legal documentation for termination. Therefore, GameSpy disabled new account creation, and is leaving he game in limbo. Other employees at EA, probobly developers or admins at at DICE who worked on the game, could take steps to keep the game online as they repaired the stat system. However they can't get the new account creation fixed because EA's Marketing Machine (the suits that determine advertising, and how EA's games are shoveled into your face) already mucked up the works by trying to get the game pulled offline. The marketing reasons for taking games offline is because it drives customers to newer released titles. Something that most consumers willingly do regardless of how pissed off they get. I remember when Medal of Honor Rising Sun was taken offline, the community was pissed, but most were first in line with their wallets open when the new MOH game came out.

Battlefield 2 Modern Combat is now officially dead in my opinion, due to the fact that neither the technical staff nor the marketing staff are going to lift a finger to get the game properly fixed. If anything, marketing will drive the final nail in the coffin and finish up the legal documents needed to get the game completly pulled from GameSpy's system.

This is a unique case because it is the only game EA has published that runs outside of their gaming network. They acquired DICE mid development of Battlefield 2, so instead of overhauling the entire online network code and changing to EA's dev kit, they just stuck with what was already implemented for the PS2 version.

Well now I have to deal with a game online... Sad BF2 is my favorite PS2 game online and I've played 200 hours since I got online for my PS2 last year. For now, I can live but this news really kills. It was a game I could go on anytime expect some people to be on and play my favorite gameplay mode ever, conquest. EA can go kill themselves if all I care...

But for now, I'll play BF2 until the slowly declining numbers diminish completely or they close the servers for real. Hopefully neither of those will be anytime soon, as this game is undoubtedly my favorite game on any console.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I kind of had a feeling this game was dying and is why I was waiting to pick it up. Too bad I won't ever get to try it online if that is the case.
