yeah, that fact they weren't allowing new accounts to be made hinted that they were trying to "kill" the game sort of...whyyyy?!!!!!

I already explained why, in post #87 of this discussion. Cool

Anyways what many of you are feeling now about this game, is the primary reason why OC exists as it does today in the first place. Welcome to the club. Many veterans here suffered through situations like this back in 2003 when our favorite online games were shutdown for the Sega Dreamcast. For sdome of you, this is your first time seeing how very real and sudden server terminations can be. No game is safe. It is why we focus on games that have LAN capabilites, and the best of those games at that. Since it makes no sense to build up community support around a game that is going to get shutdown in the middle of us having fun playing it.

If you guys are looking for that wide open warfare type of game, then I suggest getting Tribes Aerial Assault or Star Wars Battlefront 1 or 2 if you don't already have them. Though the SWBF games are probobly going to be closer to that of BF2MC since Tribes is like Quake with jetpacks. The key thing about the SWBF games is that they have bots. So you aren't reliant on a huge player base to have targets to shoot at. All you need is 1 other person willing to play with you, and its on like lebanon.

Finally some news. I got this again out of this thread: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/210/276768.page

Here is the most important part:

"Caleb,

As of last summer we have received numerous complaints of the Account Creation section for Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. We have notified your office of this matter several times as Electronic Arts Redwood Shores office has requested that the online play option be discontinued as of September 1st 2009, but we have not received the mandatory affidavit that is required stating that GameSpy will no longer carry online play for this particular game. So as our protocol states: "If mandatory confirmation of disconnection and release of server play is not received, ANY AND ALL NEW ACCOUNTS ( I, David have highlighted this section in Capital letters) WILL BE SUSPENDED UNTIL REVOCATION OR RECEPTION OF THE AFFIDAVIT IS ATTAINED. This is an unfortunate matter as many fans of the game still play this title. An average of 200 online members can be on GameSpy servers on a solid weekend for BF2 PS2. But that is our guidelines for "limbo dc" as we call it at GameSpy.

And pertaining to the Stat Track system, we have decided to maintain this option for gameplay as BF fans have requested this option to be back up and running, but I have been advised that any other maintenance request will be rejected until the affidavit is revoked by EA or attained and documented. So you might want to forward this to your senior correspondent of online play so we can continue providing the most satisfying online play option for your great titles.

Sincerely,

(Name withheld upon forwarding of this message to me: David) "

My english is not that good to understand this completely, but it looks like this game is done....

Ha. I am guessing that Lucas Arts doesn't have any comparable policy. Since SWBFI has averaged at 40 players for the past two years, and SWBFII at 200 for the past two as well.

Though this does suck that BF2:MC is being terminated.

Its sad but in a way I dont mind it somehow. I had some very fun hours playing this game since I bought it but nasty teamkillers and crazy overskilled Japanese players just spoiled the experience for me over the months. While the account creation issue was not present, I was on par with most of my enemies but now its all screwed up. In 2 of 3 cases i get TKed when I get online. Afterwards, some guy snipes me from 1000 miles away. The next time, some crazy Japanese kills me instantly. This is the typical experience for me with this game lately. Im not that bad of a player but it just isn't funny anymore and it gets worse over the time.

The worst part of this story is however, that the overall PS2-online thing is dieing. I love the PS2 and wont stop playing it.

Don't think about that day, just play this game to death until it goes offline (and no one knows when that will be).

Play until you're eyes are stuck on the TV Shocked

Has there been any change in the condition of BF2:MC? Are people still unable to create new accounts?

No, sorry I already gave my spare away. I have more spares, but they have the same email address as my main one meaning I couldn't go on if you were using one of the spares. The spare I gave away used a different email address.
