I have to resetting my PS2 a few times before the disc makes it past the PlayStation2 logo successfully. I know it's not DREs because I have no problems with other blue discs. Confused

Is the game scratched up?

either put a square of tape on the top, around the cicle. or put the ps2 verticle.

sierra made a bad decision with the purple disks.

The thing is, it's brand new. No scratches at all. This is the third or fourth time I've loaded the disc since I first opened Tribes yesterday. Confused

The PS2 loads it up just fine at first (no Disc Read Error), but as soon as the blue disc starts to wind up (around the time when the PS2 revs up the fan speed and gets louder), my disc either stops loading or I get sent back to the Browser screen.

Yeah man, just tilt it vertical to see if that's the problem. My PS2 is always vertical so it's hard to tell.

Yea I have this problem as well. It has something to do with the same stuff that affects DRE. It's the same problem. The CDR is too thin and the PS2 doesn't pic up the disc properly. Here is what I do, to fix the problem. And it works everytime.

If your PS2 is horizontal, place your hand under the far frontal right end, life your PS2 up about half a centimeter, and drop it down on its surface sending a 'light' physical shock throughout that end of the PS2. I do this in a regular rhythm during loading if my tribes is not loading properly. It works like a charm, each and everytime.(holy shit that sounded like an infomercial.)

Don't bang it too hard, give it a loving tap.(and holy shit, that sounds really goddamn sexual).

Try it, it works though.

I try not to put my PS2 vertical, because I fear of more disc-reading troubles that way. I have never gotten an actual DRE before, but I have come pretty damn close a few times. Confused

Anyway, I loaded up Tribes twice today and the problem seemed to have disappeared. I think if I have the PS2 load the disc from a certain time (this case being when the system is powered on and Tribes is already in the disc tray), it works fine. If it ever does act up again, though, I'll follow your advice (and I'll try nikon's "endorsement" first Smile). Thanks, guys.

Laughing Nikon, the tape trick takes the place of your "loving taps". it gives it the extra width.

Use a light massage oil while doing so, nothing to syrupy.

I like to say "Who's your daddy?" whenever I tap it.

HAHHAHA I actually thought that in my mind when I was booting tribes yesterday. I was tapping it a little and started saying Who's Your Daddy lightly. Laughing

Ok. On a more serious note, I had the same problem as well. I thought it was the PS2 since TMB: O had a hard time booting up, so I went to the trouble of taking the console apart and reading up on how to correct the laser.

I tried my games out again, and wouldn't you know it, I STILL got a DRE! Then I noticed the games were a bit dusty. So I wiped the dust off. SUCCESS! Very Happy

Moral of the story? Take especially good care of your CDROM games, kids. Wink

I had a few hitches with the Tribes disc again lately, but I was able to play the game with my cousin all weekend. Awesome. Very Happy

I forgot to try any of these tactics when my disc acted up again this time, but resetting the PS2 with the disc in the tray and in the system (and not from the Browser or switching from a previous disc) worked fine. I couldn't really tap it and say "Who's your daddy?" in front of my cousin, anyway. Wink
