It's tough to imagine a video game console without some sort of force-feedback mechanism in the controllers. It's also hard to imagine that something that simple is actually a patented technology.
Well, Sony and Microsoft found out the hard way after being successfully sued by Immersion Corporation, who patented vibrating game controllers in 1996. Who knew? Microsoft settled out of court for a $35 million US payout and investment (which actually gives them a 10% stake in the company), while Sony has been ordered to pay $82 million in damages plus a yearly licence fee of 1.37% of their PS2 sales, or roughly $27 million annually. Ouch. http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Edmon...907519-sun.html found that at gamerplug, and found it pretty funny. funny how the 2 big guys are getting nailed by some small people. but those small people will have some fat pockets in a while |

Yea that's awsome. I think Nintendo dodged this because they have different methods for creating a rumble in the GC controller. | ||||
