Hey everyone, after both DC and GC sections of the site, I finally joined the PS2 section Smile

I was wondering if anyone knows about the game 'Shienryu Explosion'

It is on the wikipedia page for Warashi but I can't find any other information about the game. I can't even find it for sale anywhere.

After purchasing Trigger Heart Exelica and loving it, I want to play more shooting games by Warashi, and the videos of Shienryu Explosion on youtube look pretty sweet. Very Happy

I own Shienryu Explosion, it comes on a 2 pack shooter release from D3 Publishing on the Simple 2000 series label.

It was released in Japan in 2 different releases:

1.) Simple 2000 Series Vol. 37: The Shooting - Double Shienryu
2.) Simple 2000 Series 2-in-1 Vol. 5: The Shooting & The Helicopter

This same pack was also released in PAL Regions under the title "Steel Dragon EX". It was not released in North America.

I recommend getting the first option above, "Simple 2000 Series Vol. 37: The Shooting - Double Shienryu" because it contains both the original Shienryu and Shienryu Explosion.

Another side tidbit, is that Shienryu Explosion was originally designed to be a Dreamcast game :] Then it somehow fell off track, was never released, and got bundled on this budget compilation instead. Look around you should be able to get Simple 2000 Vol 37 for about 20 dollars or less.

X, I just checked your profile at the Dreamcast site, and noticed you are a PAL region user. You should be able to track down Steel Dragon EX in your native territory. Me, I had to import the Japanese version. Anyways here is the product page at the PAL versions publisher:

P.S. - Nice to see someone over here at the PS2 site talking about shooters besides me :]

Thanks very much for all the information and links Nikon.

It's a shame it never made it on the DC Sad

Does the PAL version have a 60hz option? and just out of interest is there a way of playing import games on my PAL PS2 without mod chips?

Thank you.

I did some research and it turns out the game does not have a 60hz option on the PAL version. You may want to look into scoring the Japanese version instead. Booting imports on your PS2, without a modchip would involve a fliptop, and a PAL specific swap magic boot disc (which actually comes in packs of 2, one for CD games and one for DVD games).

Is a flip top the new slim PS2 disc tray? I have one of the original PS2s.

Thanks for finding out about the 60hz option for me, do you think it would have a noticeable difference in lack of speed for this shooter? I'm not sure if i'll be importing much for the PS2, so I don't know if I will be buying a Japanese PS2 console. Is there many top quality shooters available on the PS2/PS1 worth getting an import system for?

A fliptop is a PS2 shell case, that you use to open the PS2 and swap the disc without resetting the game console.

As for buying an import PS2 or modding one, there are a lot of great PS2 imports available that you can't get anywhere else:

if you are looking to buy the Japanese version of Double Shienryu I can toss you a link on a good deal.

wow, loving the music of The Lunatic Ibara!! is that normal in game music?

Espgaluda and Hokuto no Ken both look awesome.

I'd heard about the Donpachi series before but I heard it's real hard, i'd probably get slaughtered Laughing
